Our Mission
The National Cowboy Heritage Association raises funds for educational scholarships benefiting students from ranching and agricultural families across Texas and Oklahoma. We believe in supporting the next generation of hardworking students who are committed to preserving the values of faith, tradition, community, and hard work.
Our Story
Founded in 2000 by Red Steagall and a dedicated group of supporters as the Cowboy Heritage Association of Fort Worth, our organization has evolved alongside the communities we serve. What began as a vision to help a handful of students in the Fort Worth area has grown into a regional program serving students across Texas and Oklahoma. In 2025, we updated our name to National Cowboy Heritage Association to reflect our expanded reach and continued commitment to supporting the next generation. Over two decades, we have awarded significant funding to help students pursue their dreams of higher education.
Our Logo
The cowboy and child silhouette featured in our original logo was created by renowned cowboy artist Bruce Greene, a dear friend of Red Steagall. The image represents the heart of our mission: experienced hands helping the next generation rise. Bruce's generosity in creating this artwork for us continues to inspire our work supporting students across Texas and Oklahoma. Our updated logo honors Bruce's original vision while reflecting the evolution of our organization.
How We Support Students
The National Cowboy Heritage Association is funded through event proceeds and the generous support of donors who share our commitment to investing in the next generation. All funds are held in a designated account specifically for scholarship funding. We award scholarships each semester to outstanding high school seniors and current college students who demonstrate academic achievement, strong moral character, and a connection to the ranching or agricultural community.
